Environment Artist Emily Falconer from Climax Studios

For this week success history, we are having a chat with our former student Emily Falconer from Climax Studios.

What course did you study?

Ma Game Art

What are you working on at the moment?

Right now I am working at Climax Studios on a new PS5 game, my role is to set dress some environments and that is all I can say about that! But In my spare time I am working on an environment. It is nothing fancy but I want to continue to keep my portfolio updated and improve my 3d skills, specifically the things I am bad at.

What work are you most proud of working on and was/is your most notable achievement?

The work I am most proud of would be my final major project, although when I handed the project on the deadline day it wasn’t finished! I kept working on it after the deadline date for about a month and made it as good as I could possibly make it. I mean I could improve on it a lot more but when I uploaded it to my artstation, the piece got a lot of likes and comments compared to my previous work so I thought maybe I have improved. The sleepless night definitely paid off!

If you had to sum up your time at Escape Studios in one word, what would it be and why?

I would say challenging, it pushed me out of my comfort zone especially with presenting my work!

What lessons have you learnt during your time studying and your time working in Games?

Whist studing, I learnt a lot of things to do with industry pipelines but other than the things that were taught in the class room. I learnt to be patient with myself as I never saw myself improving until the end of each project. I also learnt that feedback is the key to helping me improve on my work, whether I liked the criticism or not it gave me views on my work that I didn’t notice.

Whilst working in games I have learnt that there is so much more I need to learn!

What is your advice for those considering entering the industry?

I would say to plan ahead about what specific pathway you want to take and just follow that and practice as much as you can by drawing and creating work.

What’s your favourite game and why?

I have so many favourite games it is really hard to pick but I guess I will have to go with RimWorld right now, it is just a really fun game and there is so much content in the game.

Thank you so much Climax Studios as well Emily for this interview.
