Success Story: Triston Beadle

Going back to our success histories, I would like to share another interview. This time around I had the pleasure of talking to Triston from our MA Games, currently working at Astrofish Games.

What course did you study?

MA Games Art.

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m currently creating props for a medieval market kit after recently releasing a medieval dungeon kit on the unity and unreal market.

We are also in the early development of a new game creating environments in Unreal Engine 5.

What work are you most proud of working on and was/is your most notable achievement?

Bioshock Infinite based in London, which was our group project during the course. As one of the people working on the architecture, I was chuffed to see the amount of variation we produced using modular pieces. This was also my first collaborative piece which brought with it new challenges with helping managing a team.

If you had to sum up your time at Escape Studios in one word, what would it be and why?

I would have to say – Invaluable!

This one year course provided me with the skills to get into the industry. After each module I had a portfolio ready piece that I was confident in applying for jobs and was able to secure a job two months before the course ended.

What lessons have you learnt during your time studying and your time working in Games?

That you should never stop striving to make yourself a better artist by learning new skills and developing on existing skills. In an industry that is always advancing with its technology and processes it’s important to keep on top.

What is your advice for those considering entering the industry?

A strong versatile portfolio is important. You don’t need to create tons of massive environments that take months to complete and show off everything you know in every piece, just a handful of small dioramas with each one focused on a particular area that demonstrate your skills to employers.

What’s your favourite game and why?

Diablo 2 hands down! This is a childhood favourite of mine. I love everything about this game, the flexible character builds, crafting items, diverse environments and now the remastered version Diablo 2 Resurrected with its reworked graphics and PBR materials is the cherry on the cake.

Thank you Triston and AstroFish Games for the talk.
