This week is an awesome week for VR, Epic Games are promoting VR week for games made in Unreal and we thought we would jump on the bandwagon.
We are excited to show you some of the wonderful work that our 3rd Year UG Game Art students have produced during their 10-week VR group Projects here at Escape Studios.
With the PSVR2 coming out, as well the already great Vive and Quest we are spoilt for choice when it comes to the formats that we can experience VR with.
Our students created environments with impressive style, storytelling, and layout. The four teams were given free rein to come up with their own ideas, develop art bibles and as a group execute a believable and artistic environment. The work had to be produced within strict technical limitations to make sure the work was optimised for a great VR experience.
At Escape we are passionate about VR and VR experiences, students not only need to understand their craft in terms of creating great experiences but, they also need to make sure that their projects are optimised and run in a frame. Working in VR provides creative artistic challenges as well as many technical hurdles to test their skills.
To support their development each team of students is given an Oculus headset to test and develop their content in the classroom. It’s hard to appreciate but designing for VR really requires the constant use of a headset for testing. Having this support plus the huge amount of passion and dedication from the students has produced some great work this year. Keep an eye out for this year’s graduates as I’m sure they will be in the industry very soon.

Great work as ever. Well done to all the students on the quality and attention to detail.
